We built Emendant to find the source sites an SDK upgrade will affect before
the install. AI SDK 5 removed the ai/react entrypoint. In
vercel-labs/ai-sdk-preview-attachments, Emendant found this affected import
before the upgrade:
app/(preview)/page.tsx:10:1import { useChat } from "ai/react";The replacement comes from @ai-sdk/react. Emendant did not offer a patch for
that repository. Its typecheck found other AI SDK 5 migration errors, and the
replacement package was not installed. The tool does not change dependency
versions or install a new dependency on the user's behalf, so it reported the
result as inconclusive and withheld the patch.
For a separate repository built to demonstrate a fix, the AI SDK 5
CoreMessage to ModelMessage rename produced a patch with 3 added and 3
removed lines in one file. The patch was graded TYPECHECKED after these
commands passed with AI SDK 5 installed:
npm install ai@5.0.0 --ignore-scripts --no-audit --no-fundnpm rebuildnpm run typecheckEmendant is a local CLI for TypeScript and JavaScript. It reports changes that
its feed describes for six npm packages: ai, openai,
@anthropic-ai/sdk, langchain, @langchain/core and @google/genai. It
does not claim to find every breaking change, it does not match Python, and it
does not fix every finding. A scan makes no network request and does not upload
source code.
The complete evidence includes the pinned repositories, the AI SDK 5 tagged source, the exact finding, the complete patch, the validation result and the limits:
